In conversation with Damkapellet

“Gathering people around a cause that is communicated through music is something that many can relate to” – Pauline Hogstrand, producer and violist of Damkapellet.

Phoebe Bognár from Women of Noise contacted us about publishing an article about Damkapellet, and here is the result! In the interview we get to hear Mika Persdotter, Pauline Hogstrand and Irene Bianco from Damkapellet.

Women of Noise (WoN) is a dynamic platform celebrating and featuring the work and stories of women and non-binary creatives in the global community. It aims to provide an all-inclusive space for the diverse and prolific work of female-identifying and non-binary creatives.

WoN began as a concert series (formerly ‘Noisy Women’) and has been enjoyed by many in Brisbane to celebrate International Women’s Day. This concert featured women in music throughout musical development to today.

Check them out, and we hope you’ll enjoy!

Glemte Stemmer on tour

Our children performance “Glemte Stemmer” has a very exciting month ahead including a two weeks tour with Levende Musik i Skolen through Jutland, Denmark – 18 concerts in schools! Besides school touring, we will also perform an excerpt from our performance in YAM-Awards price ceremony the 1st of October.

Later in October we are invited by the General Consulate of Sweden and the Danish Cultural Institute in Saint Petersburg, Russia, to perform and talk about Damkapellets activities. We have also invited two female composers into this journey, to meet and tell us about how their lives as contemporary composers today look like – in their respective countries: meet Lovisa Duprat (SE) and Alina Petrova (RU)! Christina Amundsen will come along and film the whole experience so that we can bring it home to you!

Last, but not the least, we will finish off the tour with a concert on home base, in Koncertkirken, the 28th of October.

In danish: Damkapellet genopliver kvinders musik og nedbryder klassiske traditioner

I kælderen under Det Kgl.

Presenting “A Room of One´s Own”

Presenting “A Room of One´s Own”

In a couple of weeks time we will go into work mode in Københavns Musikteaters facilitates to create this brand new performance! This is gonna be the result of a cooperation between Københavns Musikteater, Dansk Komponistforening and Damkapellet and will for the first time be performed at the 14th of April.

We are looking so much forward, stay in tune!

A Room of One´s Own is a musical performance that portrait six female composers personal creative space and the inner life of her time. A space that is essential for any artist, but often not given or permitted to women. With music as the medium and female classical composers as examples, we take the audience on a journey from medieval times until today, recreating a room of their own in the contemporary world.

Coming from a selectively emphasised history, we wish to shed light on a more diverse view and increase our knowledge of female in arts. By creating windows into small rooms of each of the composers lives, we wish to give the audience an insight in their time, their quest and their passions. Using different elements of sound, we build an atmosphere which reflect on three aspects of existence – the physical body, mind and spirit.

We invite our audience into an experience of an inner life, to be a part of a room, to make our own history.

In the performance you will hear music by Hildegaard von Bingen, Isabella Leonarda, Elfrida Andrée, Kaija Saariaho, Maria Martine Jagd and Julija Morgan.
